Significant date for new rector

Not every new rector gets to choose the date of his induction to a parish, but the Rev. Doug Edmonds was able to settle on the Feast of the Epiphany for his Commissioning Service at Holy Trinity, Launceston on 6 January.

The service, led by the Vicar General, the Rev. Canon Robert Legg, fitted well with the theme of the offering of gifts. The sizeable congregation included family and friends from Victoria, and a contingent from the Parish of Burnie, where Doug was locum for eighteen months.

Although Doug has come from a Victorian rural parish, he is no stranger to Tasmania, having been Director of Anglican Mission Tasmania for some years prior to his time in Burnie.

Actor

Doug was born in Melbourne and, after university, spent time as an actor before pursuing a career in public relations and journalism. He attended St Barnabas Theological College in Adelaide, gaining Bachelor of Theology with Honours. After several curacies in Melbourne, he was lured to the Diocese of Rockhampton for eight years, before returning to Melbourne as Vicar of St Paul's, Ringwood, coming to Tasmania for the first time in 1994.
