Obituary

Edney Ewans

Almost everyone who has worshipped at Christ Church, Longford over the past twenty years would know Edney Ewans, who died suddenly on 7 January at home in Longford.

As the Rev. Dr Peter Johnson said at the very well-attended funeral service at Christ Church, Edney was very hard to resist. Although in some obvious ways significantly impaired Edney had great personal effectiveness and a wonderfully gregarious spirit. He had great Christian faith and it was this that brought him to Christ Church for almost any occasion. Edney joined in services enthusiastically, particularly on the mouth organ with which he accompanied the organist on the big machine with fervour.

Edney was a keen member of the Anglican Men's Society and wore his badge with great pride. He chivvied the Longford Branch to help those Edney knew to be less fortunate even than he, and through his encouragement the AMS branch supported a young man in Uganda for over ten years.

Presence

Edney tackled people at church on all kinds of issues and no-one - not even a Bishop - was spared his inquisitiveness, nor his affection.

We have lost one whose presence reminded us all of our frailties and gave frequent occasion to pause and reflect as we rushed through life. He will be greatly missed at Christ Church but warmly welcomed into His Kingdom.
