I decided to take my twelve year-old grandson to the Mission Afloat open day advertised in the December issue of the Tasmanian Anglican. Happy children at the front gate of the venue were giving out Christmas stockings full of goodies - my grandson WAS impressed! This was a good start to a delightful couple of hours spent looking around Montgomery Park. We followed the 'map' into the boat shed and were shown how to polish small shells covered by epoxy resin. This took about ten minutes and we could keep our little ornament - my grandson was rapt and gave his little gift to his Mum for Christmas. SurpriseThere were free donkey rides and boat rides and a barbeque with sausages at a very reasonable price. But the most surprising thing was the auction - if only I had known, I would have done my Christmas shopping here! Cruises, holiday accommodation (just the gift for exhausted families), camping gear, bikes and many other items were auctioned by another surprise - TV newsreader John Remess. I certainly plan to do my Christmas shopping at the auction if it is to be held next year and I will be taking more children along next time. It was a very well organised event and delightful day out. |
