Bishop John welcomes the Revd Chris Stafferton after his ordination at St Luke's, Latrobe.

Significant day for Latrobe Parish

by Dawn Burk

The Revd Chris Stafferton was ordained priest by the Bishop of Tasmania, the Rt Revd John Harrower, on 4 October in St Luke's Church, Latrobe.

This was a significant day for the parish as it was the first time that an ordination had taken place there. Approximately ninety people attended, some of whom were from other denominations. Several members of the clergy attended including the Revd Neville Newett, who was Chris's retreat conductor. Members of Chris's family travelled from interstate - his parents, sister, brother and various nephews and nieces. Lessons were read by Mr Richard Thomas and Chris's wife Jennie Stafferton, with Archdeacon Emeritus Ian Booth reading the gospel.

After his priesting Chris celebrated his first communion and later luncheon was served in the parish hall. It was altogether a great experience and a happy time for us all. Chris will continue to serve the parish of Latrobe on a part-time basis while still studying part time through the Bible College of Victoria and Ridley College.
