What a useful little book this is! Written by a newspaper sub-editor with many years' experience, it is perhaps the most concise book of its kind . Anyone who wants to write clearly, be it a book, a business letter, or an article for a paper, will find lots of friendly and concise explanations in chapters such as 'punctuation - basic rules'; 'small and pesky - two words that slow the pace' and 'every which way - the difference between which and that.' Each chapter finishes with a 'hot tip' such as 'Fewer than is for numbers. Less than is for quantities.' The last section of the book has an 'editing checklist' to follow before the written material is finally completed. As it says on the back cover, 'this book will answer (your) questions and many more you have not thought of yet.' Reading this book may give you more confidence to write for this paper! |
