Book Review -
Loamhedge

reviewed by Patrick Dunne

Loamhedge is the latest book by Brian Jacques and the newest edition to the Redwall Series. This series follows the adventures of the creatures who dwell in a time-worn Abbey in the forest of Mossflower. Each book charts the swashbuckling quests of the Abbey's champions and Loamhedge is no exception.

Epic endeavour

The young, lame hare-maiden Martha Braebuck is given the chance to cure her crippling disability by going to Loamhedge, another ancient abbey, far south of Redwall. Martha's trusted companions, an otter warrior named Baragoon and the squirrel Sarobando, go in her place on an epic endeavour to find the secret of Loamhedge. Back in Mossflower, Redwall is in peril from a descending horde of bloodthirsty sea rats and a mighty badger sworn on revenge.

I thought Loamhedge was an exciting adventure, a thrilling ride that captured my imagination and made me a firm Redwall fan. This is a book primarily for younger readers but one that the whole family will enjoy.

A good one for Christmas reading!
