The Rev'd John Bayton from Melbourne, conducted the Anglican Women's Retreat at Maryknoll Retreat Centre, Blackmans Bay from Friday 19th - Sunday 21st September. 'Jerusalem my Home' was the theme, presented through a series of addresses. Slides, pictures, icons and drawings amplified the verse 'and I saw a new Jerusalem.' Rev. 21:2. Words, images, and prayers encouraged the retreatants to read the chosen biblical passages with a seeking perception. 'Look for a morally, allegorically, spiritual insight in all scripture. Find transformation and transfiguration in study and learning time' recommended Bishop John. FootsoreOn Saturday morning retreatants were asked to select a small stone from an altar bowl in the chapel. 'Wear this in your shoe for the rest of the day,' was the instruction. Saturday evening welcomed the footsore with reminders that the pain of the world is acute for many. 'Scripture tells of the darkness of life, so integrate your own story with the darkness as well as the light of Christ,' encourages the conductor. ChallengeThe weekend passed through times of reflection and revelation, as God revealed inner truth, little by little, through each address. 'Continue to research the scriptures, ask questions, with God as your guiding light. Be willing to battle with yourself, find new ground. Be worthy to bear the name of Christian!' were the final words of challenge on the Sunday afternoon. |
