The stout-hearted men of Longford AMS

by T. G. Cowell

Members of the Longford Branch of the Anglican Men's Society were stout-hearted men after the wonderful evening recently at Manfred and Maggie Schneider's place.

At their invitation we transferred the usual monthly meeting from the Parish Meeting Room to the very acceptable home-made pizza room at the Schneiders. But, as with all social events in which Christian men are involved, the spiritual side of the gathering took priority.

It being 12th October the AMS State Chaplain Peter Johnson guided us through a moving little service in memory of the events in Bali 12 months ago. One of our members, Gordon has a son Stewart in Bali assisting many of those coming to terms with those dreadful days and Peter's words and prayers carried additional significance in that context.

Following our usual AMS Service we then 'stood down' to enjoy the Schneider's home-made pizzas, done to a treat in the wood-fired oven and complemented by samples of Manfred's home-brew - hence the stout! Together with a seemingly never-ending stream of shaggy-dog stories recounted with disarming 'droll' by some senior members the Branch enjoyed a wonderful evening of fellowship.

Our next major event: sponsoring a 'Hymns of Praise' at Christ Church, Longford in November.
