Big Brother meets the Bible

icon from the Ark home page

A groundbreaking Christian web project is on the shortlist for a major British national internet award. The Ark, a reality game show created by shipoffools.com, has been nominated for 'Best Use of Internet' in this year's British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) Awards.

The Ark breaks new ground, technologically. It's multi-user, 3D and looks brilliant. Dubbed 'Big Brother meets the Bible', The Ark features 12 Bible cartoon characters - including Moses and Mary Magdalene, Samson and Simon Peter - played on computer by contestants in their own homes, linked up via the internet. In real time, the characters in the Ark move from room to room, perform tasks, communicate through speech bubbles, overcome crises, lead Sunday services - and even try to pair off with one another!

Divide

Sailing for 40 days and 40 nights, the web audience vote them off one by one, until one Bible hero is left to walk onto Mt Ararat and claim a handsome cash prize.

'Ship of Fools is well known for connecting faith with popular culture,' says Simon Jenkins, editor of shipoffools.com. 'The voyage of the Ark has been our most adventurous and successful attempt to sail across that divide. We're especially thrilled to be shortlisted alongside other mainstream brands.'

Funding for The Ark has been provided by Jerusalem Productions. The next sailing is planned for 2004.
