'Remember Bali' at St David's Cathedral

by Stephen Carnaby

A time of reflection and silence was held on the first anniversary of the bombing murders in Bali, Sunday 12th October, at St David's Cathedral Hobart.

Those involved included the Lieutenant-Governor, the Premier, the Anglican Dean of Hobart and the Catholic Archbishop of Hobart.

Ben Davis, who was injured in the blast when on holiday with Tim Hawkins who lost his life took part in the service. Harpist Christine Sonneman played the composition she wrote last year in response to the tragedy, with other music being provided by the Cathedral Choir.

New life

Community and professional groups with which Tim Hawkins was associated were present and an opportunity given for those attending to contribute to the scholarship fund established at the University of Tasmania in his memory.

The Bishop of Tasmania, the Right Reverend John Harrower, said, 'We are continuing to pray for all those affected by this tragedy, and are pleased that some of the perpetrators are being brought to justice. At this time of remembering, our hope is in the God who can provide true comfort, and who through Jesus can bring new life even out of death.'
