Christmas shoeboxes waiting to be sent to needy children

 

Christmas cheer for children

This year St Mark's, Bellerive is supporting Operation Christmas Child whereby shoe boxes are given to hurting children, mainly overseas.

The project is one of several run by Samaritan's Purse, a non-denominational Christian organisation.

Each shoe box is filled with six gifts for each child: something to love, to play with, to write/draw with, to eat, to wear, and something for personal hygiene. Boxes from Tasmania went to Thailand last year, and have previously gone to places like Kosovo and Afghanistan.

In August the Friends' of St Mark's hosted a morning tea at which Mrs Cheryl Cope, the Hobart co-ordinator of Samaritan's Purse, spoke to us on the work being done. An amount of $470 was raised to support this project and seventeen shoe boxes were given to Mrs Cope. The total is expected to exceed thirty.
