Saint David's Cathedral, Hobart

New look grounds

Passers-by will notice that the Cathedral Close has had a revamp. The project has been a co-operative venture of the Cathedral and the Hobart City Council; the Friends of St David's Cathedral have made a considerable contribution to the cost of the new landscaping, planting and repairs to pathways.

The Cathedral Council at a recent meeting approved the suggestion of calling the area 'Friends Close' and the installation of a suitable plaque. The ambiguity is deliberate! There are the Friends of S. David's and the friendly relationship between Cathedral and City Council. There are also those who come in the better weather to spend a time in the Close for lunch, to sit and think, or just to sit.

We like to think of these (mostly!) as friends, too.

Come and enjoy the Friends Close next time you are in the City. It is planned that there will be music at lunchtime from time to time for those who are enjoying this city base. Any volunteers?

There are also of course, the daily Eucharists to which all are welcome - Monday and Wednesday at 1:05pm, Tuesday at 7:45 am, Thursday at 10:30 am (BCP), Friday at 12 noon - this is followed by the Healing Service.
