No, not Mary, Jesus' Mother, but the founder of the
Mothers' Union, Mary Sumner's Angels. The Victorian
State Conference of MU Australia was held recently at
Melbourne University.
The closing service in Trinity College Chapel with
Archbishop Peter Watson presiding was one of joy as was all
of the worship during the Conference. Conference Chaplain,
the Rev'd Wendy Pullin introduced participants to angels and
the important role they have in bringing the message of
consolation and joy, and assurance of God's protection and
care. Wendy spoke of how important it is to have a holy
place and of the need to praise and worship God.
The theme of the Conference was 'Outreaching Together'
and Elizabeth Appleby (General Trustee of Worldwide Mothers'
Union) was the keynote speaker reminding participants of
that part of MU's core business which deals with marriage.
The title of her talk 'Barefoot, Pregnant and in the Kitchen
&endash; Does marriage have a future?' dealt with changes
that have occurred in society.
