Murder of Melanesian Brothers

Media release 21 August 2003

The National Director of the Anglican Board of Mission, Canon Geoff Smith has asked Australian Anglicans to give thanks for the lives of the Melanesian Brothers murdered by, it would seem, the followers of Harold Keke in the Solomon Islands.

The names of the brothers are: Brother Nathaniel Sado, (whom it appears, was killed earlier), Brother Robin Lindsay, Brother Francis Tofi, Brother Alfred Hilly, Brother Ini Ini Partabatu and Brother Tony.

In response to rumours in the Solomon's concerning the activities of the brothers, the media officer of the Church of Melanesia has released a statement strongly denying that the second group of six brothers were involved in any way in spying for the government, but instead were seeking to ensure that if Brother Nathanael had been killed (as they had heard), he had received a proper Christian burial.

Canon Smith said ' the death of the brothers is another stark reminder of Murder of Melanesian Brothers the reality that Christians are still being killed as they seek to serve the Lord. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in situations of danger all over the world that their faith may enable them to stand strong, and for the people of Church of Melanesia as they seek to work for peace with other Christians in the Solomon Islands'.
