The 'acorn' that is the Anglican Men's Society at Longford from time to time produces spiritual 'oaks' and certainly did so in August. On Tuesday 5 August, the Feast Day of St Oswald, King and Martyr and the Patron Saint of the Anglican Men's Society, branch members gathered at Christ Church, Longford, for a service of Holy Communion. Several women of the Parish joined AMS-ers in the Chapel. The very early morning service was celebrated by AMS State Chaplain, Rev. Dr Peter Johnson, who in his homily reminded us of the greatness of St Oswald, whose faithfulness, humility and sense of service to his fellow men in 7th century Northumbria serves well as an inspiration to Christian men in Tasmania and elsewhere in this 21st century. CroissantHaving received the Bread of Life, members and two women adjourned to the local (but internationally renowned) JJ's bakery for their daily bread - in this case toasted raisin or savoury croissant each according to the need! All rated the morning Communion and fellowship a great occasion and it has inspired us to look for other opportunities to share social time with each other and draw other men of the parish into the wonderful fellowship that men of Christ can enjoy when we gather in His Name. |
