Sue and Russell Morton in Thailand

Russell Morton arrived back from Australia on 22nd July and started preparation for the CMIS school year before flying to Pakistan where he spent 5 days in Murree for the MCS Board meeting. He is still MCS Director until the end of August, although that meeting appointed Jeremy Middleton, a British missionary and MCS parent, as Interim Director to research educational opportunities for missionary kids in Pakistan from September 2004. This will require thinking outside the box. Although a return to the MCS Murree site is the most wished-for outcome, it is not the only plan which needs to be considered.

Sue had extra time visiting family in Australia before arriving here on 6 August to a multiplicity of tasks including girls' relief boarding parent.

We are now well into our third year and the future is becoming clearer. God has opened up the next step once the CMIS Board has their new Principal in place here. Bishop John Harrower has announced that Russell will fill the role of Registrar of the Diocese once the present Registrar retires in August next year. Before that, we look forward to a period of home assignment and deputation with CMS, completing three and a half years. We expect to move to Tasmania no later than late March 2004 and possibly as early as Christmas 2003, depending on the situation at CMIS.

John and Margaret Cannell in Nepal

The CMS Summer School in Bicheno was one of the best ever, and we enjoyed seeing so many friends and being able to talk about Nepal. The lovely East Coast, the kindnesses shown to us, family and being home for our daughter's wedding all helped us recover from the severe tensions and hard work of the past semester.

Prayer points: That we will be fruitful in the University and the School; that we will be able to make a difference to these keen students and staff who need so much guidance in every way; as well as teaching, that John will be effective in getting research mounted and laboratories equipped that will be relevant to serve poor Nepal; that the Government, Palace and the Maoists will continue talking and that the peace that exists at the moment will last; that the giant earthquake geologically overdue in these areas of Nepal will be held back!

Readers will understand, while we need to remain loyal in these times, especially when nothing is necessarily confidential, that much of what we try to do and show is about perseverence and faithfulness, in which we have so strong and perfect a lead from our own leader; who requires faithfulness because He is faithful. And that's quite a message for us all!
