Some of the tribe from GO 2002 - this year was even bigger, but the rain spoiled the 2003 photo!

Way to GO!

Every year, around March long-weekend, a group of a dozen or so young Christians (let's call them the Diocesan Youth Council, or DYC) has a communal nervous-breakdown. Coincidentally, it is about the same time of year that DYC holds its annual conference for Christian youth. It's called GO, and it just turned 5.

GO is a place for Christians from grade 11 to those still young-at-heart to meet together and learn - both from sharing with each other and from the many workshops and teaching sessions throughout the weekend. The conference also involved lots of worship and a Forum which aims to allow ideas from around the state to be shared and realised.

Sitting around

All new for GO 2003, however, was the rain. The rain came down (and the floods came up) for almost the entire three-and-a-half day affair. But the nature of GO meant that it was no great disaster; the essence of GO is fellowship, whatever the weather, and this year's conference had a great laid-back feel which allowed even more time for sitting around discussing ideas.

Our keynote speaker for this year was William Briggs, whose energy in teaching rivalled even the youngest GO-ers. Will spoke on Identity in Christ from Colossians and his teaching was complemented by small-group studies. Throughout the weekend participants chose from a range of workshops run by Christians from throughout Tasmania. Workshops for this year covered topics such as art and literature, sex, Islam and worship music.

Later in the year DYC will be running, among other events, coffee-shops in local cafés with discussion and teaching on topical issues and a Battle of the Anglican Bands.

Tell your friends - Coming up soon is Noisy Church!

This is the first of DYC's regional youth services where the usual (youthful) suspects can gather to join their more isolated counterparts. It will be held in the North [venue to be confirmed] on the afternoon of Saturday the 12th July, so tell your friends and youth groups now!

Be sure to stay tuned for DYC news and announcements throughout the year, or for more information contact the secretary. (grants@netspace.net.au)
