The April Tasmanian Anglican made mention of John Ward, an AMS member from Bendigo, who was staying in Hobart with friends following the recent National Conference, and who died very suddenly. What should also be recorded is the wonderful service held at St Anne's Lutana, to coincide with the exact time of his funeral in Bendigo. Organised by southern members of the Anglican Men's Society it was a most moving and inspiring service. An Order of Service had been beautifully prepared by local members and friends and family. The singing of the hymns, reading of the Lessons, the celebration of the Holy Communion, the eulogies and tributes paid to a great AMS member: all these marked for those present the great Christian brotherhood that is the Anglican Men's Society. In this Diocese AMS-ers from south, north and north-west share a common love in the service of their Risen Lord and the service at St Anne's on that Wednesday morning in March was in keeping with their pledge of 'active witness, fellowship and service to help forward the Kingdom of Christ.' This Member was privileged to have been present.
[Ed's Note: The Vicar General of Bendigo, John Geldart, phoned to say how touched the Bendigo family and friends of John Ward had been, by this tribute from the Tasmanian branch of AMS to a fellow member.] |
