The Rev. Alwyn Prescott was ordained in St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney, on 28 February, 1943. To mark the occasion of the 60th anniversary of' his ordination, friends of Alwyn and his wife Millicent gathered on 28 February at St Peter's Church, Blackmans Bay, for an evening service of thanksgiving and acknowledgement. The service of Holy Communion was conducted by the rector, Canon Robert Legg, and Bishop John Harrower's warm greetings were presented by his Chaplain, Canon Charles Fehre. The Bishop's greetings were also conveyed by the Rector. Lifetime of ministryIn attendance were fellow clergy and friends from the Church Missionary Society. They joined with parishioners from St Peter's Church and other parishes, to acknowledge the lifetime service of Alwyn and Millicent. By way of testimony Alwyn spoke of the Lord's leading that took him firstly to a university degree in Engineering. In response to the strong call of God, lecturing in Engineering followed and this enabled theological studies at Moore College to be completed. Marriage to Millicent took place and so began a lifetime of ministry of the Prescott team in the Sydney Diocese. Opened the doorHowever, retirement in Sydney only opened the door to a new ministry in Tasmania, firstly as an assistant at Holy Trinity, North Hobart, and then as Rector of St George's, Battery Point. Between the two appointments the Prescotts filled in a five month tour of Europe, the Holy Land, and the Soviet Union. They are now resident at Blackmans Bay where Alwyn continues to assist with services. The strong theme of Alwyn's testimony was of God's leading and faithfulness in providing all our needs, and of our role as obedient servants. Well done, good and faithful servant! |
