The 51st Anniversary of the Accession of HM Queen Elizabeth II was celebrated at Holy Trinity Launceston on 6 February with the traditional Anglican Evening Prayer and the special additions and variations for the occasion. Holy Trinity Choir sang the service which included the hymn 'Lord of all creation, colour and race' written by the Rev. Dr Philip Blake and set to a well known tune by Elgar. Dr Blake also precented and preached the sermon for which there were many expressions of appreciation. PerfectionIn his sermon he recalls being in London on the day of the coronation. He described the ceremony of coronation being set within the Eucharist and spoke about the increasing references in the Queen's Christmas message to her personal faith. He called us to remember that we are not entitled to demand perfection from any family, including the Royal Family. He recalled the occasion when the Israelite people asked for a king like other nations have, and called us to thanksgiving that we have a sovereign not like other nations have. This splendid evening concluded with a reception in the Parish hall with supper served by members of the Holy Trinity Guild. |
