ABM is sad to announce the sudden death of Mrs Gawali Ayong, wife of Archbishop James Ayong, Primate of the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea. Mrs Ayong died from an asthma attack on New Year's Day in the village of Kumbun where she was visiting family. Sadly, Archbishop James was not with his wife when she died. Speaking on behalf of the Archbishop, the General Secretary Martin Gardham said Archbishop James 'conveys his thanks to everyone for their prayers and the many messages of sympathy from so many friends around the world. Archbishop James also said that 'the calling of God is a permanent thing'. That is, he does not intend that his personal sorrow should prevent him from continuing with the work, which he believes that God has given him to do.' New BishopABM is delighted to announce that the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea (ACPNG) has elected a new Bishop for the Diocese of Popondota - the Reverend Roger Jupp. Roger has been serving as Principal at Newton Theological College in PNG since November 2000. While training for the priesthood at Chichester Theological College he first became aware of the life of the Anglican Church in Papua New Guinea through the annual commemoration of Father Vivian Redlich, one of the New Guinea Martyrs, who was trained at the seminary in the 1930s. Ordained deacon in 1980 and priest in 1981, Fr Roger served curacies in Chesterfield in Derbyshire, Oxford and London. |
