Tasmanian Anglican

February 2003

Well, are we ready?

by from Trevor G Cowell, Longford Branch Lay-President

Ready, that is, for the 2003 National Conference of the Anglican Men's Society which the Tasmanian State Branch is hosting and the Longford AMS-ers are closely involved in organising

As you all must know by now, much of the activity for the Conference, from February 28-March 2, will be in the Longford Parish. On Saturday at 7.00 a.m. there will be a Service of Holy Communion at Christ Church, Illawarra: that beautiful little Church on the western slopes of the Mt Ireh property between Longford and Carrick - you've driven past it thousands of times! Christ Church, Illawarra has kept the faith these years and stays with the traditions of the Book of Common Prayer, so that service of Holy Communion will be according to 1662!

On Sunday at 9.00 a.m. the major service of the Conference will be a celebration of Holy Communion according to the Australian Prayer Book at Christ Church, Longford. This too will be a grand service of worship, prayer and praise. Again, all are welcome to join members of the AMS from across the nation and other men of the Diocese.

Great social assembly

At the conclusion of the Service a great social assembly begins at the wonderful Brickendon Estate nearby, where many men of the Diocese met last year for a terrific Men's Fellowship Day! AMS invites men of the Diocese - and this year wives, partners, friends, to join the official AMS delegates for what should be a marvellous outing.

There'll be a barbecue lunch, tour of the Farm Village and Homestead area and then a wonderful drive down the Woolmers Lane to Woolmers Estate over the river. At Woolmers opportunity will be available for a tour of the House and grounds and of the National Rose Garden at Woolmers: a treat for all (rose) garden lovers.

Smoko

Afternoon smoko will have something a bit substantial if it's needed; then, for those still standing, Evensong at Christ Church Longford and the official closing of the 2003 National Conference. The Longford Parish Branch are praying that the Lord of Hosts at that time illuminates the great East Window at Christ Church (it faces west!) - with His setting sun.

Slightly bad news

Longford Branch Members of the Anglican Men's Society encourage every man in their Diocese to strive to be there. If there's some slightly bad news it's that there'll be a small charge for the Sunday activities of $20 per person. No better investment in having a great time will be available in 2003!

Contact Gordon Millar (ph 6391 1471) or Trevor Cowell (ph 6398 2507 or email: platcha@optusnet.com.au if you will be attending on Sunday, March 2.

But, when the day arrives, and you hadn't previously made up your mind to join us - Do!
