A celebration was held in the Cathedral on 21st December 2002 for those who were ordained 10 years previously on St Thomas' Day, 21st December in 1992. The service was organised by Chris Jones, the Minister of the Word was Honor Yearsley. Pat Crawshaw read the first lesson, Charles Whitton the second Lesson, Elvie Fraser the Gospel and Rosemary Perrott-Russell the Prayers. The sermon was given by Val Graydon who was ordained in Brisbane and has now joined us in Tasmania, and Bishop Philip Newell celebrated. Wonderful dayA special printed service outlined what the clergy had done in the last 10 years. After the service a dinner was held at Hadleys Hotel where Bishop Newell spoke of some of the hurts the ordination of women had caused. Elvie read her thoughts on the ordination which had been given to those who sent her cards etc. and a copy was given to those celebrating ten years. It brought back many memories. Most Dioceses have had a celebration for the ten years. It was a wonderful day. |
