The Bali Bombings of 12 October were still fresh in our minds when the Rev'd Peter Millar revisited Hobart recently. Peter who is meeting with Wellspring Community throughout Australia is a Past Warden of Iona Abbey and member of the Iona Community in Scotland. About 20 people from several different denominations met at the Sandy Bay Uniting Church Hall to share aspects of their personal journey and ponder the present world situation in the light of the recent terrorist attacks. Peter challenged us by asking whether the present is worse than the past. Has life always been so uncertain and insecure or are we only more aware of the atrocities due to the modern media ? Are we all responsible as Dr John Carroll suggests in his recent book Terror (2002, Scribe Publications). Members and friends of the Wellspring Community are very involved in a wide range of actions for peace and justice, working as part of church groups or community movements.
