The Red Tent is a story told by Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob in the Old Testament book of Genesis. The big ruddy red canvas tent, had a significant place in the settlement. It was the menstrual tent, where the women looked after each other. There they had their babies, did the cooking, spinning and weaving, and told their stories to the coming generations. The comfort, laughter, security and sadnesses that were experienced there sustained women and children. The well-known story of Jacob and his sons, especially Joseph, is a celebrated chronicle in the Holy Book. The story of Dinah, in thought-provoking novel form, is an imaginative insight into the chain connecting ancient mothers to daughters. It is an attempt to tell the forgotten untold story of holy remembering, to complete the saga of Jacob and his family. Five chapters take the reader on a journey through Mesopotamia, Canaan to Egypt, into a sacred privileged place of Knowing. An easy read, a hard to put down book! The author has written other books on Jewish life that compliment this tale, for those who seek to know more. Blessing on your eyes and on your children. Blessings on the ground beneath you. Wherever you walk, I go with you. Selah. |
