Mission Afloat is now Marine and Safety Tasmania (M.A.S.T.) approved. This means we can now move on from the trial phase to the operation of our boating programs. The scope of the programs will steadily increase as volunteers are trained up and boats are commissioned. On the 6th of November, Mrs Enid Canon launched the restored oiled dinghy 'Minnow'. It was carefully restored by an Anglicare Work for the Dole participant, Ben Downey, who did a wonderful job on it. It is our third wooden clinker dinghy. GenerosityThe people of Mission Afloat Tasmania are very grateful for the generosity of people, particularly the Women's Guilds around the state who have recently donated $500 to the project. These funds greatly assist us in the purchasing of equipment and materials to keep resourcing the mission. Our most recent acquisition is an Islander 360 fibreglass dinghy complete with a new Yamaha outboard motor, sponsored by Edwards Pharmacy of Kingston.. It is our aim to have four such units operating early next year for young people to gain practical powerboat experience and we are now looking for sponsors. Although Mission Afloat caters for groups, individuals are always welcome to visit the site. Please ring the office (6267 9233) to arrange a suitable time. Invitation to visitIf you would like to be involved with the project, why not come down to a BBQ/Working Bee on Saturday 7th December? (Children are welcome.) Or come for a sailing fundraising day on Sunday afternoon 15th December - we will sail in company to Bruny Island and return. Thank you to all the people who are supporting us with prayer. Please continue as we nurture this project into its full potential.
Please ring Allister Martin on 6267 9233 for the BBQ / Working Bee, or Ian Edwards on 6229 7771 for the Sail Day. |
