Eleven members of Hot House youth group, Holy Trinity Hobart took part in their Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition on Maria Island in September. The adventure helped to strengthen the ongoing relationships between participants within the church and the young people who have joined under the umbrella of the church. High seas and roaring winds welcomed the group as base camp was struck at Darlington and after 3 hours of 'hand over foot' all 11 members stood on the summit of Mt Bishop and Clerk. It was an amazing effort by all and the spectacular views were well worth the climb. The first evening was spent huddled around a fire eating, talking and singing lots of Christian songs. Hot bathsOn the following day gale force winds drove three of our intrepid team to Mt Maria while 5 brave members battened down their tents after a 6 hour march to French's Farm. Others took shelter in a disused farmhouse. Day 3 saw the group trek back to Darlington, ride the high seas and motor home to hot baths, soft beds and tons of food. A great adventure was completed, with the advantage of more qualifying expeditions to look forward to. Thanks go to Tony Coupe, our Expedition Advisor and Assessor. Participants were Gold: Dave Hall, James Sherriff, Ondine Adey, Adrian Nickols, and Bridget Tierney. Silver: Patrick Carroll and Emily Watkins. Bronze: Katie Madden, Sophie Watkins, Ingrid Smethurst and Jared Wilson. Congratulations to Jared for qualifying for his Bronze Award, presented to him at Government House in October.
