In early November, I'm going to grasp the high wide handlebars of my mountain bike, attach it to a trailer bearing a two metre plywood boat, and cycle around Tasmania! This two week adventure is to raise funds for bicycles for Tasmania's own Mission Afloat, a new venture for young people. My trip starts at Coningham (40 minutes south of Hobart on the Derwent's western shore) and will follow a path up Tassie's east coast to St Helens, across the north via Launceston to Wynyard, down the west coast to Queenstown...with the final leg through Hobart and back to Coningham. Cycling across some of Tasmania's most beautiful country and steepest hills, I will be closely followed by my support vehicle, crewed with volunteers whose task it is to keep me safe as I ride 80 to 100 kilometres per day. Every night, we will be greeted by billets, gracious in sharing their homes and hospitality. How can you be part of this adventure? Can you help with billets, fundraising or financial support? Please contact Ben through Mission Afloat on 6267 9233. |
