Come fly with me!

Are you ready to fly with me as I seek to share some of the wonderful experiences of our Anglican Family?

It has been great travelling around the State and meeting so many of you in your native habitat.

Ordinations 2000 - Stephen, Deirdre, Scott, Sharon, Jacob and Peter

The Ordination of six terrific good men and women was both a solemn occasion and a joyful celebration at our Cathedral Church. The calling forth, training and ongoing support for those in ordained ministry is vital to our being a healthy church.

Parish Visits - Avoca, Northern Midlands

We enjoy a bit of fun and here we are thanking Bill Haas, the Registrar for travelling with me to Avoca and for all his hard work.
Our friendship has been cemented as we drive together - both on literal occasions sharing the driving to various places - and in a figurative sense as we share the driving of the affairs of this wonderful diocese.

Confirmation - Kingston parish

It is an extraordinary privilege confirming Tasmanians both young and less young who have committed themselves to Jesus Christ. There is great joy and celebration in affirming the decision of Anglican people committing themselves to Jesus Christ.

Kingston parish visit

Children's ministry is an increasingly significant part of the church's ministry. It always brings creativity, fun and excitement. It also stimulates reflection and provokes conversation for discussion - I hear of many family discussions, as they return from church in the car, which result from the children's ministry.

Launceston Church Grammar Junior School

And in the more formal setting of school life, children are learning and growing together .
This is another way we share the good news of Jesus Christ with our children.

Parish visits - Quamby Blessing of the Plough

Making the Gospel relevant to the many different communities across Tasmania takes a great deal of creativity and hard work. One excellent example of this was the Blessing of the Plough service in the Quamby parish. A local farming family had prepared their home paddock and outbuildings to provide a delightful outdoor setting where the Communion Table was made of hay bales with the bread set out and a marvellous red wine tucked into the side of one of the bales! One of the lovely touches was that as we were celebrating the Lord's Supper together the blokes on the barbeque lit up the barbie so that we joined in an extended sacramental meal together. Rides on the hay cart were also much enjoyed as the parish celebrated together and offered a warm welcome to all.

East Devonport recently - a Confirmation held in a marquee following the fire - burnt out ruins top left hand corner

Celebrating joy in the midst of chaos. Jesus Christ calls us to celebrate joy in the midst of chaos. Amidst the shared sorrows of our Anglican family we experience solidarity and the continued work of the Holy Spirit amongst us. The recent tragic loss of the beautiful St Paul's Church building at East Devonport has deeply saddened us. The parish, however, has not lost heart and is continuing a wonderful work of healing and care including concern for the perpetrator of the fire. As if to show God's blessing upon their determination to continue 17 people came forward to make their public commitment to Jesus Christ just last Sunday. This is a clear demonstration of the continuing work of the Holy Spirit amidst the trials and sorrows of life.

Furneaux Islands - preparing to fly to Cape Barren island

Gayelene and I are really enjoying moving around this beautiful part of the world and sharing in the joys and sorrows of the Anglican Family of Tasmania.
As you can see from this picture not all this travel is done on donkeys!
We travel inspired by the vision of All Tasmanians committed to Jesus Christ.
Praise the Lord!
