Prayers for Port Arthur

The Good Shepherd

Good Shepherd, come close to us and be with us, for we are passing through the valley of darkness. Enfold in your love all those who grieve amidst this tragedy, and uphold the carers and community services involved.

We may stumble, we may fall, we may weep, yet will we place our hands in yours, loving Shepherd God. Amen.

The Light Of The World

Gracious God, Light of the World, we ask that your love may shine for those who have died so tragically at Port Arthur. Lead them from the darkness of death to the light of eternal life.

As you make the day follow the night, help all of us to look in hope for the dawning of a new day, where pain and sorrow are being healed, and confidence restored. We ask this for Jesus' sake. Amen.

Remembering Port Arthur

Dear God, we remember before you today all who have suffered through the tragedy at Port Arthur. We commend to your care and keeping all who died that day; we ask you to be close to those who grieve the loss of loved ones; and we pray for the people of the Tasman Peninsula. Forgive us, dear God, if we find it hard to pray for the one who caused all this pain and loss; and give us grace to continue in confidence and trust to work together for a community marked by love and peace. Hear this prayer offered in the name of Him who died and rose again for our salvation, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
