Two youth views of Synod
Grown-up
Stuart Grant
Since the dissolution of Youth Synod, a body which only
curtailed the usefulness and encouraged the
argumentativeness of 'grown-up' Synod, Tassie's Anglican
youth have felt somewhat disconnected from the main body of
the church, and powerless within it.
This, as my first synod, removed that feeling and taught
me not only that the average Anglican does have a concern
for the youth, but also that the difference in attitude
between the youth and older generations within the church is
very small. We are the same sinners working for the same
hope.
My hope is that opportunities will be created for the
older generations in the church to live out their passions,
made obvious to me at Synod, for ministering to the younger
generations; and likewise, that the youth will find ways of
making their positive impact on the wider church known.
In the spot
Chris Bowditch
Well, surprisingly, my first Synod experience was one
that I truly enjoyed. I was told that I was in for a
horribly boring time, but it was an amazing time where I was
inspired and encouraged.
Once I got a grip on the process of Synod, I was then
able to move an amendment to a motion, which ended in
cheering after my attempt to explain to everyone went
something like, 'I want to put a thingy in the spot.'
But the small groups were a fantastic time of fellowship
and encouragement. At one time testimonies were shared, and
one lady in my group blew me away. I will never forget what
she said, and I want to thank her for inspiring me. I would
also like to thank the 'Bish' for dinner on Saturday night
and being open to discuss the issues with the youth
reps.
I can't wait till next year!!
