Welcome to our new clergy!
who were ordained in St David's Cathedral on Saturday 4 December 2004

Ellen Clark

Ellen ClarkChildhood was beautiful, warmth, security, comfort and fun, tumbling, up in a large family. I thank God for my parents, their spirituality, wisdom and the example they set for us as Christian parents.

Marriage to Russell, and six children that I love dearly, were the middle years, then Russell's death and some tough times, have all moulded me into the person I am today.

I thank God for the community in which I live, the faithful Parish of Hamilton, who have been so good to me over the last 15 years, and for Simon and Sandra Pitt who insisted I went to Cursillo.

For the Cursillo movement, which has helped me to come to terms with my life, for their love and understanding. Later, for the growth I experienced, when I too was part of a Cursillo team.

It was during this time that I first became aware that God wanted more from me. That first awareness has taken a long time to come to fruition, with many frustrations along the way, but then I was called out by my Parish.

I thank my husband Keith for his support of me, and all my friends who have supported me, through the tough times. Today I have 11.5 beautiful grandchildren, work with the Glenora Online Centre, New Norfolk Community House, run a stall at Salamanca Market, enjoy Tuesday morning Bible studies, and share the gospel of Jesus Christ in my local community.

Most of all I thank God for his love and patience with me.

Ian Harvey

Ian HarveyA Melbournian by birth, Ian moved to Tasmania in 1974. Trained as an industrial photographer, Ian initially worked in commercial television in Hobart. Married to Felicity in 1975, they have two daughters and two sons. In 1978 Ian began work with the Australian Archives in Hobart, as regional director, eventually moving to their central office in Canberra a few years later. Settling in the small country town of Gunning, NSW, north of the ACT, Ian's active ministry within the Church began there as a lay reader in 1986.

Returning to Tasmania in 1990, the family settled in Burnie where Ian continued as a lay reader in the Burnie parish. Initially working at the North West Regional Hospital, Ian now works at the Burnie campus of the University of Tasmania.

While undertaking the Education for Ministry course in the early 90s, Ian began to sense his call and started to investigate future ministry options. This led him to a short term volunteer placement with CMS in Cairo during 1994, supporting an ecumenical mission to Sudanese and Ethiopian refugees fleeing to Cairo. The passion for a mission focused ministry was now clear.

On returning to Tasmania, Ian became involved in the Burnie parish's project of reopening the Mission to Seafarers station in the local port. He was appointed the station's lay chaplain in 1995. He was elected to the Australian Council of the Mission last year, and appointed to its World Forum this year, returning from this year's meeting in England only a few weeks ago.

Ian was ordained a Deacon in February 2003.

Lance McCallum

Lance McCallum grew up on farming properties around southern Tasmania, the second of seven children born into a family who became regular Salvation Army attenders at New Norfolk. At the ripe old age of thirteen Lance gave his life to the Lord and became a Christian. During this time he was a Sunday School teacher, a band member and a youth leader and it was at this point in time that he met his future wife Pam.

Lance has had a faith that never lost excitement. At twenty-one he commenced his worship at St Matthew's church in New Norfolk, with his fiancé, Pam, who after a few years he married and together they have brought up their three children in the faith that they both believe in.

Lance has had an exciting growth in New Norfolk, witnessing, and being a part of the change and development in the church. After years of being a part of the Sunday School, Parish Council, Church Warden and Lay Reader, Lance is now a member of the Ministry Support Team. Lance was ordained a Deacon in February 2002 and has witnessed a new sense of purpose about what the church means to him and the people worshipping with him.

Lance works in the veneer industry at Boyer for Gunns. This year as a family venture, Lance and his family have taken on the Donut King franchise at Glenorchy Central. In his spare time Lance has had a high profile in the Derwent Valley Concert Band, travelling overseas and performing locally to the enjoyment of many.

Lance is the proud grandfather of Dimitri and any spare minutes are taken up with family and friends get togethers.

Lance's vision for his future is to see and help continual growth in the church, but especially with the younger members, as they continue to grow and to develop their ministries.

Louise Pascal

Louise PascallAfter being an orchestral player for ten years Louise received a call to ministry in 1997, after which she commenced her studies, and was ordained as a Deacon in 2002. Louise was then a chaplain at St Michael's Collegiate school for two years, and Honorary Deacon at the Sandford parish.

Louise is presently Honorary Assistant at St James New Town and St Andrews Lenah Valley, and works part-time as a Pastoral Carer at Calvary Hospital. Louise is married to Philippe and they have four children Thomas, Ella, Francis and Henry. Louise's greatest joy and privilege in life is to share God's love with others. She also enjoys playing with clay, swimming, country life, gardening, reading and sharing life with her family.

Helen Phillips

Helen PhillipsA big change for me during my year as a Deacon has been the completion of over ten years ministry at Scripture Union. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities SU continues to provide for children and young people to hear and experience the Gospel. I'm grateful to the wonderful friends with whom I shared ministry and life during these years and pray for God's continued blessing on them. I have commenced as Safe Ministry Officer which comes within our Professional Standards arena. I continue as Diocesan Children and Families Mission Development Worker. The combination of responsibilities brings a healthy balance between finger paint at playgroups, policy and administration. As a member of the Tasmanian Church Consultancy Team I continue to be involved in assisting churches and organisations to review their life together so that they move forward in the mission to which God has called them. As Mission Support Officer there is a range of occasions for me to visit our Southern Rural Parishes. There are some great people doing some exciting work in some of our smaller, more isolated and less resourced Parishes. Franklin Esperance Parish and Sorell Richmond Tasman Parish have received additional focus during their time without a rector.

At the end of second semester I will have completed Clinical Pastoral Education and am grateful to the Reverend Canon Eric Cave for his guidance and supervision.

The Diocesan staff have been very supportive. They are a hard working, amazing crew who can deal with all aspects of life as well as have a laugh and joke together. St Clements has continued to be our family spiritual home. We are so grateful for the support of our friends at the 9.30 congregation. Colleagues including Robert Legg, Neil Vearing, Noel Bowditch, James Collins, Bill Haas and Paul Cavanough have been a great support. Prompting me when its time to learn something new, providing a listening ear and being terrific encouragers.

Our family takes a new shape in 2005 (only Ray and I left) as our youngest, Joshua, leaves home for a GAP year in Thailand. We treasure each of our boys, mums and extended family members. They continue to love me no matter what. Thanks to you all for the opportunity to serve.

Martin Woolley

Martin WoolleyIn 1980 after many years of spiritual wandering, I experienced a profound conversion to Christianity. At that time Christine's parents were visiting the UK and they proved to be a tremendous support to this nervous new convert and prospective son-in-law. Through their encouragement Christine and I decided we should get married in Australia.

In 1981 I arrived in Melbourne, to marry Christine, spend 12 months doing the 'Big Aussie Tour' and then return to the UK. Well, 23 years later... Those years have been blessed by God in so many ways and it is obvious that it was His plan for me to stay in Australia.

Christine and I moved to Diamond Creek on the outskirts of Melbourne and joined a very lively and growing church. I became involved in the children's ministry. I also helped form a drama group and took part in many outreach activities. It was during this time I developed a passion to work with street kids and those people who just did not 'fit in'. I joined 'Open House' a Christian outreach ministry as a volunteer.

Christine and I were asked to start a once a week family style evening mealtime, which proved to be a real family time with the arrival of our son Peter and two years later our daughter Naomi. During this time many lonely or single people joined us. Although there were many challenges it was a great time of not only being blessed, but in seeing others being blessed also. During this period I undertook some study at Ridley College and attended various seminars and workshops.

1987 dawned with a new challenge - God was calling us to Tasmania. After much prayer and support from friends and family we arrived in Devonport in November 1987. From first being involved at St Matthew's New Norfolk to finally settling further up the Derwent Valley in the Parish of Hamilton, out time has not been boring. I have been a Lay Reader, led Alpha courses and taken R.E. in schools. I have a passion for introducing people to our Lord and to see his church grow in rural areas.

I work as a Laboratory Technician at Glenora District High and Claremont High schools and see the time spent at these schools as an opportunity to get alongside students and staff.

My hobbies are renovating the house, painting landscapes, walking, listening to good music and reading.
