Media release Friday 29 February 2008 Expressions of interest to be called for Holy Trinity Church buildingThe Parish Council of the combined Parish of Holy Trinity and BayWest last night decided to take another step in the move towards the disposal of the Holy Trinity Church building. The Parish is now calling for Expressions of Interest to identify interested parties who wish to seek a particular future use for the building. The Parish is formally and publicly calling for Expressions of Interest, and will receive them up until the 30th April, 2008. This date coincides with the availability of the draft report of the conservation management plan commissioned by the Hobart City Council at the request of the Anglican Church. It may then be possible to discuss any pertinent matters arising from the draft report, and other reports received to date, with any prospective owners. Knowing who is interested in owning and utilising the Holy Trinity Church building into the future also makes it possible to address questions of adaptive re-use. At this stage of the process the Parish is simply calling for Expressions of Interest, not for firm offers. The property is not yet 'on the market'. Rather the parish is wishing to enter into dialogue with any parties who might consider making an offer at an appropriate point in the future. If an appropriate Expression of Interest is received and the Parish wishes to proceed with disposal they will then seek the permission of the Diocese. In March of 2007 the Holy Trinity Parish Council, which is the annually elected leadership body of the parish, petitioned Bishop Harrower to close the Holy Trinity building. This was in response to a comprehensive report from an expert heritage architect which put the cost of restoration and upkeep of Holy Trinity at around $4million. In August 2007 members of the Holy Trinity Parish voted to merge with the neighbouring BayWest Parish, and the combined congregation began meeting together last November. The Holy Trinity Church building was deconsecrated in October 2007, meaning that church services are no longer held there. Media Officer - Revd Stephen Carnaby 0417 343 710 |
