Thomas Heywood Organ Recital at St David's Cathedral

The internationally acclaimed organ virtuoso Thomas Heywood will be performing this Sunday 25th February, 2pm, at St David's Cathedral, Hobart.

Thomas Heywood enjoys an outstanding reputation as one of the world's finest concert organists. As the first and only Australian musician in history to live as a professional concert organist, 33 year-old Heywood is renowned for his truly unique ability to make the greatest music of all time come alive on the King of Instruments. He has an amazingly extensive repertoire of over 5,000 works.

He will be performing Grand Organ GALA! - a once-only concert of the finest and most famous classical and romantic music on the pipe organ in St David's Cathedral, Hobart. A feature of the concert is watching Heywood's 'superhuman' hands and feet live on screen.

Australian born Thomas Heywood is celebrated around the world for his spoken introductions and solo performances of the greatest classical and romantic music. In the UK the papers say 'Heywood has a rapport that a rapper would envy'. 'The audience was brought to a noisy standing ovation. What a concert!' In the USA Heywood's concerts astound audiences and critics alike with record crowds and unparalleled standing ovations.

As a famous American critic wrote, 'That the words "organ recital" and "fun" could appear in the same sentence probably wouldn't occur to many people! But Thomas Heywood's recital had the audience grinning from ear to ear. Mr. Heywood isn't just a brilliant organist. He's a first-class musician! Add his ebullient commentary and it's hard not to think of him as the Crocodile Hunter of the organ! He was as compelling as he was charming. His performances were beyond brilliant.'

At only 33 years of age, Heywood tours annually around the world performing extensively throughout North America, the UK and Europe. After unprecedented successes dazzling audiences from New Orleans to Windsor Castle, Heywood still calls Australia home and for over a decade he has also performed more concerts in Australia than any other organist.

Heywood's 2007 international solo tour incorporates nearly six months performing in Concert Halls, Town Halls, Cathedrals and Churches reading like an encyclopaedia of the world's most famous pipe organs.
