Leading Czech Organist to Perform at Cathedral

Pavel Kohout, a leading Czech organist, will present an outstanding program of music in St David's Cathedral Hobart on Sunday November 5 at 3pm.

Born in 1976, Pavel began to play the piano at the age of five and graduated from the Prague Music Conservatory.

Presently he is studying at the Academy of Music in Prague, under Prof. Jaroslav Tuma. In 1999-2000 he studied old organ music at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam in Holland with Prof. Jacques van Oortmerssen.

He is the winner of many international music competitions including:

  • the International Organ Competition in Ljubljana (1998) as a grand prize winner receiving the special prize of "Dancing Angel" of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth,
  • First Prize in the International M. K. Ciurlionis Piano and Organ Competition 1999 in Vilnius, and
  • First Place and Minoru Yoshida Memorial Prize (for best performance of work by J.S.Bach) in the 4th International Organ Competition Musashino-Tokyo 2000.

Tickets are $15 or $5 and may be purchased at the Cathedral Office in Church House 10am-2pm week days or at the door.
