New Dean of Hobart to be installed

The new Dean of Hobart, the Reverend Dr Lindsay Stoddart, will be installed by Bishop John Harrower in a special service at the Cathedral Church of St David tomorrow (Saturday).

Dr Stoddart has had a wide variety of church leadership experiences at a high level. They include being the founding CEO of Anglican Youthworks in Sydney, supervising 120 staff and setting up a youth training college. He was Archdeacon of Wollongong, and has ministered in three parishes, including one in which he was the founding minister.

Dr Stoddart has also chaired and been a member of a number of Anglican and other Christian organisations and committees. His studies include a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary, USA, and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Sheffield, UK. Lindsay is also a qualified lawyer and has been a senior partner in a Wollongong law firm.

Lindsay's wife Jan is a teacher librarian; the couple have four children and three grandchildren.

The former Dean, the Very Reverend Dr Stuart Blackler, retired in May 2005.

The Anglican Bishop of Tasmania, the Right Reverend John Harrower, has expressed his delight at this new appointment. He said, 'Lindsay Stoddart will be a significant new leader in the Anglican Church in Tasmania. He brings wide-ranging experience in Church and professional life, as well as his academic studies and leadership gifts.'

Bishop Harrower sees this as another step forward in the life of the Anglican Church in Tasmania. 'I'm excited as we continue to position the Anglican Church for its life and mission in the 21st century.'

Media representatives are welcome to attend the Installation Service, which begins at 3pm at St David's Cathedral, Macquarie Street, Hobart.
