Media release Tuesday 14 February 2006 Bishop Harrower nominated for election as Melbourne ArchbishopThe Bishop of Tasmania, the Right Reverend John Harrower OAM, has been nominated for consideration as the next Archbishop of Melbourne. The Melbourne Board of Nominators last night released the three names of the nominees to the Melbourne Synod, of which Bishop Harrower's is one. The Melbourne Synod, which consists of 800 elected representatives of the Anglican Church, will consider the names later this week, with an outcome likely to be announced on the weekend or early next week. Bishop Harrower said that he was honoured to be considered for the position. 'This process is a way in which Anglicans seek God's will in choosing their leaders,' Bishop Harrower said. 'I am very happy in Tasmania, and there is still much work to be done here. However, if God were to open the way to this ministry in Melbourne I would accept that.' Bishop Harrower worked as an engineer and economist, before serving in Argentina as a missionary. He was Vicar of St Barnabas, Glen Waverley and Archdeacon of Kew, in Melbourne, before being appointed Bishop of Tasmania in 2000. A brief Curriculum Vitae for Bishop Harrower may be found on his home page. Contact Media Officer - Rev. Stephen Carnaby 0417 343 710 |
