90th Anniversary of Mission to Seafarers

30 August 2005 marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Mission to Seafarers, formerly the Mission to Seamen, in Hobart.

An Open Day will be held at the 'Flying Angel Club' at 31 Morrison Street, next to the Customs House Hotel, from 10:30 to 3:30 pm on Saturday 3 September. People are welcome to 'drop in' to view the facilities offered to seafarers visiting Hobart.

The Hobart Mission to Seafarers is part of a worldwide chain in over 300 ports. Originally established in England as an Anglican Mission to care for the spiritual and physical welfare of seamen in 1835, it provides care for people of all races, faiths and nationalities.

The Hobart centre also includes one of the worldwide Mission's longest serving volunteers - the active and enthusiastic Mr Jack Tomes who has notched up over 67 years of service to the Mission.

For more detail and information, or to arrange for photographs, contact either the Chaplain, the Reverend Bruce Mitchell (prior to Saturday 27 August) on 6265 8720, or Mr Jack Tomes on 6234 5308.
