Media statement Friday 19 November 2004 George Town celebrates 200 yearsThe Anglican Church, together with other churches and the local community, will this Sunday celebrate the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the ship Buffalo in George Town. At 10am, there will be an open air Service on the same spot as the original Thanksgiving Service which marked the landing at George Town (then called York Cove) in 1804. This will be followed by a Spit Roast Lunch served on tables down the main street of George Town. At 1pm, the traditional Hospital Bed Race will take place. George Town Anglican Church will be entering a bed which will carry the Bishop of Tasmania, the Right Reverend John Harrower, and four others dressed in period clergy costume.
