Wednesday 5 May 2004 Canoeing bishop to speak at fundraising lunchCanoeing Bishop to speak at Fundraising Lunch Bishop Alan Migi from the New Guinea Islands will be speaking tomorrow (Thursday) at a fundraising luncheon for women's literacy in Papua New Guinea. Bishop Migi is the first indigenous person to be appointed Bishop in this area of PNG. As a part of his leadership, he visits remote parts of the diocese by canoe or on foot. In this part of PNG, only 40% of women are literate, leading to problems in areas of life ranging from reading medication labels to voting in elections. The luncheon is being hosted by the Tasmanian Anglican Board of Mission Auxiliary on Thursday 6th May, at 12:30pm at St Anne's Anglican Church, Ashbolt Crescent, Lutana.
