Friday 8 November 2002 Bishop against same-sex adoptionsThe Bishop of Tasmania, the Right Reverend John Harrower, has again expressed grave concern about the principle of same-sex couples becoming parents, in light of the State Government's upcoming legislation. Bishop Harrower said that while he understands that most people desire to be a parent he believes that the interests of children should always be put first. He said, 'God's design for parenting is that children have both a father and a mother. While I recognise that this does not always happen, I believe that these situations are fraught with difficulty.' Bishop Harrower said, 'There is a significant amount of independent research to suggest that children raised within same-sex relationships are worse-off than those who have the modelling of both a father and a mother.'
