The new Dean of Hobart, the Reverend Richard Humphrey, will be installed by Bishop John Harrower in a special service at the Cathedral Church of St David tomorrow (Saturday) at 5pm.
Revd Humphrey returns to Tasmania where he attended school before pursuing studies in architecture and, upon graduation, work in London.
During his university years he participated in the Urban Mission Team of Scripture Union at Rokeby.
He topped his year at theological college with first class honours and has served in the parish of Kinson, UK, then in Sydney in Yagoona, Leichhardt, and Killara. For the past eight years he has been the Rector of Cronulla.
Revd Humphrey is a fine preacher, teacher, liturgist, caring pastor and community builder. His role in peace-making following the Cronulla riots was widely commended.
Revd Humphrey is married to Georgina and they have four children.
The Anglican Bishop of Tasmania, the Right Reverend John Harrower, is enthusiastic about this new appointment. Bishop Harrower said, ‘I am excited by the Cathedral’s vision and believe that Richard Humphrey brings the gifting and experience to help achieve these goals, continuing to build a healthy church which transforms life in Tasmania.’
Media representatives are welcome to attend the Installation Service, which begins at 5pm at St David’s Cathedral, Macquarie St, Hobart.
Media are also welcome to approach Bishop Harrower for interview with himself and the new Dean following the service.
Revd Humphrey may also be available for interview at another time by arrangement.
