To be a Christ Centred Parish committed to each other, reaching out to the local community through Worship, Evangelism, Prayer and Pastoral Care.
See our transformingLIFE report.
Visitors and new worshippers are very welcome at the service and afterwards for morning tea.
All worshippers are encouraged to contribute to the prayers of the people during services. Prayer for healing is available at the end of each service. Regular prayer meetings are held during the week.
Weekly services are taken at Medea Park retirement village / nursing home. Home communion and pastoral visits are also available for those unable to get to the church services.
Small groups meet for fellowship and bible study including three 3 KYB (Know your Bible/CWCI) groups.
We are constantly looking for new ways to engage with the local community.
Regular and seasonal services and events in the parish include:
Weekly KANGA at St Helens, each Sunday at 10.30am, for primary aged children. At the start of the year a Fun Day held on the foreshore attracts up to 100 children.
Christian Religious Education (CRE) classes are held fortnightly at the St Helens Primary School.
Please contact Rev. Michael Wakefield or one of the Local Ministry Support Team to discuss your needs.
The parish of St Helens was designated in 1891 to encompass much of the tin mining area of the north-east including Georges River (now Pyengana), Goshen, Goulds Country, Lottah, Poimena and Weldborough.
The present church of St Paul in Cecilia St. was built of hand-made brick in 1884 to replace the former weatherboard church in Tully St which had been completed in 1875.
In 1893 St Peters at Weldborough was opened and in 1894 the church of St Michael and All Angels at Pyengana was completed and is still in use. St Gabriel's at Goulds Country was dedicated in 1912 and was in regular use until 1994.
Holy Trinity at St Marys was incorporated into the St Helens parish in 1994, previously being part of the Fingal parish. The current 1984 building replaced an earlier wooden building which was demolished due to a concern that the leaning spire may be unsafe.
