Mission to Seafarers - Burnie

The Burnie Mission to Seafarers centre is located on Berth 7 and is within easy walking distance within the port area and business CBD.

The centre is normally open from 18.30 to 22.00, hours when international ships are in port and during the day when a cruise ship visits.

Facilities at the club include: phones, phone cards, internet access, foreign eXchange, TV, pool table, table tennis, dart board, souvenirs, groceries, tea/coffee and chapel. The Mission to Seafarers is the voluntary society of the Anglican Communion responsible for ministering to seafarers.

It works to meet the practical and spiritual needs of seafarers of all races and creeds. It shares its faith by offering friendship, hospitality, comfort in times of distress, aid in emergencies, spiritual support, counselling for those with problems and help in cases of injustice.

Although its origins were in England in the nineteenth century, Mission to Seafarers has spread its wings to encompass all parts of the world. Its network of ministry staff, honorary chaplains, lay volunteers and seafarers' centres are to be found in nearly all provinces of the Anglican Communion. Over the years that network has shifted as needs have changed. Some areas of ministry have closed, while others have opened. As the society seeks to keep pace with the changing patterns within the shipping industry, the need for its ministry today is as strong as it was when it was founded.
