a new adventure camp for students at Montgomery Park, Coningham

A great place to visit all year round.

Montgomery Park is nestled on the foreshore at Coningham, and its parkland grounds front onto a secluded sandy beach. The main centre sleeps 62 people under one roof and is complemented by a well-equipped kitchen, and gymnasium for indoor basketball, soccer, or badminton. The property also has a private chapel, and a huge workshop for kids called 'the shed'.

Montgomery Park is only thirty minutes drive from Hobart.

Boating program

Mission Afloat is putting together a unique variety of water craft which are all operated under a Marine & Safety Tasmania (M.A.S.T.) license.

We have traditional clinker rowing boats (up to 6 oars each), varnished wood sailing dinghies, and our larger day-sailers which hold eight students. Presently we are establishing a fleet of the latest in power boats for students over 12 years of age to operate under supervision.

All of these boats can provide an unforgettable experience for teachers and students, and courses in seamanship and boating safety complement the program. Boats are kept on moorings and we are presently establishing a shore base and jetty (subject to approval).

Grounds

The parkland setting is over 1 hectare and gently slopes to Little Coningham Beach. There is a BBQ area, flat playing areas, and quiet corners. Playground equipment is being established to include a maypole, sand volleyball court, golf driving range, mini golf, and archery.

Programs

You may run your own teaching program, or you may use the Mission Afloat staff and enable students to enjoy a unique nautical experience. Alternatively we may simply assist you in planning an enjoyable stay.

The shed

The shed is well equipped for a class of students from grade 3 to 12 to make a range of nautical items - from model surfboards, fishing lines, wooden birds, model boats and knot displays to actually making a real plywood boat and oars.

Walks

Very pleasant walks abound right at your doorstep, from coastal tracks to higher hills, with breathtaking views of D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island.

Montgomery Park is nestled on the foreshore at Coningham, and its parkland grounds front onto a secluded sandy beach.

The manager is Allister Martin who has a strong educational and maritime background. Allister was a founder of the Marine Discovery Centre and founding Principal of Kingston Christian Community School and also Principal at Northern Suburbs Christian School.

Mission Afloat offers young people the opportunity to experience challenge and to develop teamwork and leadership skills in a safe environment supported by qualified staff and volunteers. This project enhances the youth campsite function of Montgomery Park, and provides an 'outward bound' type centre that will build character and responsibility in young people.
