Neil VearingI was born in the seaside town of Robe in South Australia. After our marriage, Heather and I lived in several places before settling in Mt Gambier. We became involved in the Anglican Church through our children and I soon became aware of a call to the priesthood. I attended St Barnabas' College in Adelaide, graduating with a B.Th. and a Dip PS. Country appointments followed, in the Riverland and Victor Harbor, south of Adelaide. In 1997 I accepted a call to the Parish of Brighton, Tasmania, and lived in the Rectory at Pontville for three and a half years. In September 2000 I accepted a call to St James', New Town. Since being in Tasmania I have been the Area Dean for Clarence West, a member of the board of Anglicare, and a member of Diocesan Council. On 1 February 2001 I was appointed to the Mission Support Team with care of the cluster of Parishes and organisations from the Cathedral to the Huon. In February 2005 I was collated Archdeacon in the role of Mission Support Officer for the Derwent Region which includes the parishes of Hamilton, New Norfolk, Claremont, Glenorchy, Moonah, St John's New Town and St James and St Andrew's New Town and Lenah Valley. I continue to be the Rector of the parish of St James and St Andrew's New Town and Lenah Valley. I am currently a member of the Diocesan Vocational Advisory Team. FamilyHeather and I like to spend days off together pursuing favourite eating places or bush walking in the many beautiful spots around Tasmania. For relaxation I will be found with a good novel or a night out at the movies. Our family origins are in South Australia which makes me a passionate fan of the Adelaide Crows. We have four children. Steven is married to Emma with grandson Jake and they live in Perth WA. Belinda is engaged to Bruce and they live in Adelaide. Hayden lives in Hobart. Megan is engaged to Cameron and they live in Hobart. God continues to call me to ministry in this beautiful island state of Tasmania. |
