I was born in Hobart on 12 July 1930. I am the eldest of the four daughters of Eric and Katherine Waugh. I lived with my family in Winscombe Crescent Sandy Bay. I was christened at the Cathedral in 1930. As a family we attended church at St Stephens Church of England in Sandy Bay. We all attended Sunday school and Church services there. We were pupils at Fahan school. In 1940 we moved to 292 Sandy Bay Road but continued to attend services at St Stephens. I was confirmed there in 1946 by Bishop Davies.
I left school in 1947 and trained as a mothercraft nurse. I took jobs around Tasmania looking after mothers with new babies and packing apples in the fruit season for a change. I took a trip to England and the continent in 1951 and returned in 1952. In 1954 I married Peter Richard Shoobridge and we moved into my mother's parent's home on a property near Nubeena on the Tasman Peninsula. We farmed sheep and cattle and in 1966 we built a chicken shed to grow chickens for Glenila. By this time we had 3 children - Richard born in 1956, Katherine 1958 William 1962, then Margaret was born in 1972.
We all attended church at St Alban's church at Koonya where services were held by lay reader Dr Thomson and the incumbent at Sorell traveling to us once a month.
When Max Jones was rector I became a lay reader in I think, 1992. We had another lay reader Michael Langley but he was often away on business so I often helped Max and then Henry Ivey. Following the death of assistant minister David Wilkins Andrew has been struggling to keep our very spread out parish going so I have offered my services as minister to keep this end of the parish going.
