Brian CurtisBorn in Kent, England, I was brought up in the London Borough of Bromley. After travel in Western Europe as a teenager, at the age of 20 and looking for adventure, I left home, family and friends and moved to Australia. I began work in general insurance, mainly as a broker, and worked with the same company in London, Melbourne, Launceston and Hobart, specialising in the insurance needs of industrial and multinational companies. BreakI became a Christian whilst living in Launceston and worshipped at St Aidan's, East Launceston, then moved to Hobart and worshipped at St Clement's, Kingston, before responding to God's call to the ordained ministry. After finishing study at Ridley College in the early 1980s I served in the parishes of Burnie, St John's Launceston and Evandale, before having a break from full time ministry, and from the Anglican Church. After a brief (and unsatisfactory) return to insurance, and a short period of unemployment, I began work at the Department of Social Security (now Centrelink) in Burnie and Devonport, and lived in Devonport, then Ulverstone. Eight years at Centrelink was followed by work for the Catholic Church helping the long-term unemployed. During much of this time I was involved with the Baptist Church, but in the later years returned to the Anglican Church at Holy Trinity, Ulverstone, and again offered myself for ministry within the Anglican Church. I resigned from my 'day job' in 2001 to pursue the many requests for ministry from parishes in the northwest, north and east of the state, and returned to full time ministry as Rector of the Parish of Buckland, where I met my wife Mary. I like music (particularly progressive rock), am an avid Doctor Who fan, and have a dog called Sooty. |
