Meet the Chews: Paul, Jo and children. Paul has started at Battery Point and the Cathedral in 2007. A confine of space makes it seem a good idea to introduce us High Fidelity style by giving you the low-down in Top 5's:
Paul Who?
Five things you may not know about Paul Chew:
- The people standing beside Paul in the photograph are not interested bystanders but in fact Paul's family: Jo (wife) and children.
- Paul works at St George's Battery Point caring for families, kids, and the rest; and at St David's Cathedral caring for the young and young at heart with the nubile congregation of Cathedral Unplugged.
- Paul likes English literature, German industrial music, Danish philosophy from the 19th century, Columbian coffee, Portuguese tarts, Greek vocab retention, North American indie music, Australian history, being a native Tasmanian, and following a Galilean carpenter.
- Paul became a Christian in 1997.
- Paul still holds the honour of being the youngest clergyman in the Diocese.
Five things Paul has learnt since getting deaconed:
- How to start a Playgroup, how to write and teach a School Scripture curriculum, how to preach a sermon series, how to start a new congregation in the Cathedral, and how to get a fence built.
- The similarity between a deacon's stole and a Miss America sash.
- The need to emphasise the priesthood of all believers.
- A bit more about his character flaws.
- God is still good when things are hard.
