In the early 1980s the elders of the parish met to discern God's will for the Parish in the form of a Vision Statement. The Vision Statement has been 'tested' several times and in various ways. Similar themes were expressed during the 2005 Parish Consultations:
-
To grow closer to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The parish is convinced that all Christians need to grow closer to God the Father whilst reflecting more the image of His Son, moving and being led in the power of the Holy Spirit. In the Vision Statement this goal was: '...achieved by prayer, corporate and private, participation in worship, education programs...'
The parish has an active prayer life, gives thanks and strives to be faithful in waiting on the Lord's direction, offering issues and problems to Him in prayer. For example, the construction of the present St Clement's Church remains a testament to the prayerful dedication of many.
The parish has a developing network of Home Groups/Cell Groups where members are nurtured in supportive environments. The Parish continues to organise seminars and teaching programs for its members, with the express aim that they grow closer to our God and are equipped as saints for His service.
The parish focusses on corporate worship, not only as a means of building up existing members, but also to win souls for the Kingdom.
The vitality of worship times, the ongoing quality of musical leadership and variety of expression in worship are 'massive' blessings from God.
The parish actively encourages teaching of God's word to all ages. The Parish is known for its heartfelt love of God and His word. This is demonstrated in the education programs provided over time; from 'Life in the Spirit Seminars,' 'Called to Serve,' '40 Days of Purpose,' to children's education (Greenhouse) and Youth ministry (Crossroads). The employment of a full-time Youth Pastor bears testimony to the parish's desire to educate / grow / disciple the young.
The parish actively promotes personal devotion through the daily bible study aid Every Day With Jesus. This publication has been the 'standard' devotional tool used for over 25 years.
-
To grow as a family moving in the Spirit of God
'Family' and 'Fellowship' have always been core values of the Parish. The Parish is blessed with a wide variety of age groups, ecumenical backgrounds and stages in the Christian journey. In addition the Parish has a large number of young families.
Parish Youth Camps, family BBQ's and activity days have all enhanced fellowship within the family of God.
In the consultation process many members commented that they experience the Parish as a warm, supportive and nurturing place. Many also said that they value the sense of family.
-
To reach out to the community with the love of Jesus Christ
APOK desires to be a place that encourages and supports members in expressing their love for Christ by sharing this with the outside community. The parish has been led to 'turn itself inside-out' like a glove so that rather than retaining its love for Christ within the walls of the Church, it displays it to the world.
The parish aims to be inclusive. It welcomes at the Lord's Table all who love Jesus, irrespective of background and tradition.
APOK encourages the discernment of spiritual gifts of members so that giftings may be used in service and ministry. Every-Member Ministry is supported and encouraged, for example:
- visiting the local Aged Nursing Care residences
- home communion for the sick and housebound
- a 'casserole and grocery bank' for the needy
The Parish has built a strong profile in the community as a place that cares and a place for healing and empowerment. Many people have come to the parish to experience healing and rejuvenation of their faith. In addition many have come to view St Clement's as their 'community church,' a place to turn for guidance and support in times of need and crisis. The Parish regards these as opportunities to share God's love with those who do not regularly attend worship. An example of this is the Baptism preparation team, connecting with families as they present children for Baptism.
APOK is committed to following our Lord's instruction: 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.' (Matthew 25:40 NIV). The practical outpouring of His love for the world is a key to our ministry.

To become a centre of outreach and revival
The vision for the new Kingston church was that of a 'lighthouse' for people to come to know God. The Lantern centrepiece in St Clement's construction is a symbol of the desire of the parish to be a centre for outreach and revival.
One of the chief giftings of our retiring incumbent was that of an evangelist. This has challenged many to take an evangelistic message into the community. The Parish has promoted and sent forth a number of mission teams to both intrastate and interstate destinations, ministering and sharing with the wider community.
The parish is committed to support (prayerfully and financially) a number of overseas missionaries, both individuals and organisations. Some of those supported call Kingston their 'home parish.'
A number of curates have trained in the parish and then gone on to lead parishes and minister in other areas of the state and country. At least 10 parishioners have answered the Lord's call to ordained ministry in recent years.
